Uff-da!!! It has been a busy month with the holidays and getting back into the groove of school. January means it is time for the National Geographic Bee. The bee is open to 4-8 graders. The preliminary competition was held January 9th. We started with 18 and through seven rounds of questions dwindled it down to our top 10. Pictured above are the top ten that competed in yesterday's final competion. Our final ten consisted of two fourth graders, one fifth grader, three sixth graders, two seventh graders, and two eighth graders. What a wonderful mix students! I am very proud of their hard work, dedication, and shared love for all things geography!
Top row from left to right: Ben Wegener, Nathan Wangensteen, Kilen Klimek (Champion), Zach Quirk (in drawing), Sean Fleming, Braden Thronson. Bottom row from left to right: Jolene Quirk, Gabby Walters, Ava Silvestrini, Noah Verant
Third place was Sean Fleming.
Zach Quirk and Kilen Klimek competed in the championship round.
Kilen will go on to take an online state qualifying test.
I want to thank all of the students who came to practices and competitions, parents and other family members for helping the kids get home and cheering them on, and Ms. Olson for being the best moderator for the competition! Her love and excitement for the bee is contagious!
